A Day in the Life of a Laboratory Manager :
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for promoting communication between the laboratory and the patient care team. This position leads performance improvement initiatives, quality assurance, and ensures compliance with governing bodies and regulatory agency requirements.
What You Will Do :
Promotes effective communication between staff, leadership, pathologists, and other departments.
Participates in employee selection, orientation, training, competency, staffing, scheduling, employee payroll tasks, employee counseling, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions as needed.
Performs employee counseling and disciplinary actions as needed.
Accepts responsibility for investigation, follow up, and service recovery for dissatisfied or concerned patients, families, physicians, and clients.
Identifies performance improvement opportunities, investigates root cause, and applies appropriate corrective action to resolve issues.
Coordinates with Laboratory Information Services (LIS) team to update / troubleshoot Epic system and manage downtimes.
Participates in committees, meetings, and process improvement teams as needed.
Helps to ensure compliance with applicable laboratory governing and regulatory bodies and relevant agency rules, standards, and regulations.
Writes new policies and procedures as needed; reviews and revises existing policies and procedures on annual basis; keeps staff informed of test, methodology or policy / procedure changes.
Provides operational leadership and develops capital and operational budgets in collaboration with Laboratory Director and the Laboratory leadership team.
Works with the Laboratory leadership team to positively influence the Lab culture.
Provides staff and / or department coverage as needed.
Department / Role Specific Responsibilities
LAB QA : Ensures effective and compliant laboratory quality management program including formulating goals and objectives, monitoring data, and initiating corrective actions. Oversees the Point of care (POC) program ensuring organizational compliance with proficiency, sample receipt, testing assignments, reporting, and variance follow-up. Develops and maintains quality assurance processes, procedures, policies, and programs to meet current standards of the Laboratory Quality Improvement Summary, Individualized Quality Control Plans, and other legal or regulatory requirements.

What You Will Need :
Bachelor's degree or higher
MLT, MT or MLS certification through ASCP or AMT
Five (5) or more years of clinical laboratory experience
Three (3) or more years of leadership experience
Nice to Have :
Point of care experience (Lab QA)
Quality Management experience (Lab QA)
Sales or marketing experience (Lab Services)
Three (3) or more years of microbiology plate reading experience (Microbiology)
