Job Summary :

  • This position requires the ability to drive a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
  • May load and unload vehicle as required.
  • Requires commercial drivers’ license.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Greets customers with respect and courtesy.   Inspect vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, including the completion of pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods including the inspection of loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
  • Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Operate equipment, such as truck cab computer, cellular phones, driver cameras, GPS equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisor or other drivers.
  • Load or unload trucks or help other with loading or unloading, using loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain proficiency in all organizational safe working policies and practices.
  • Performs other driver related duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to company policies and work requirements.

    • Required Skills / Abilities :

  • The ability to read, write, understand, and relay, written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to operate available equipment, such as calculators, or scanners.
  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
  • Knowledgeable about company’s products and services, and customer-related policies.
  • Must have a class “A” commercial driver’s license and required endorsements for the position.

    • Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training.
  • Two years of related experience preferred.

    • Physical Requirements :

  • Must be in adequate physical condition to perform requirements such as mental, physical and manual dexterity, hand / grip strength, depth perception and any other physical attributes that enable the employee to perform the job safely according to all Company, Local, State, and Federal regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to lift / carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to push / pull up to 75 pounds regularly.

    • Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment when handling material or operating equipment.  Other Requirements :

  • Successfully pass a DOT drug test as requested, a DOT physical capacity assessment, a background and motor vehicle check.
  • Must maintain a valid commercial driver’s license and driving record that meets the organization safe driving standards.
