Barr-Nunn Transportation, a premier truckload carrier in business for over 42 years, is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Network Administrator to join our dynamic IT team at our corporate office in Granger, IA.

Salary : $60,000 - $80,000 and is based on experience

Responsibilities :

  • Assist in providing a stable, dependable and efficient computing and telecommunications environment.
  • Evaluate and maintain networking devices and technologies including switches, firewalls and cabling.
  • Delivery of corporate applications, network and telecommunications services throughout the company.
  • Assist with maintaining the security of the Barr-Nunn computing environment.
  • Provide support and maintenance for LAN and application servers, desktop hardware and software, corporate support applications, and telecommunications systems.
  • Administer relationships and contracts with vendors in assigned areas of responsibility and assist with procurement of network resources.
  • Assist in establishing business needs, develop appropriate recommendations and provide approved solutions using IT best practices.
  • Assist in the development / enforcement of IT standards and policies
  • Provide service and support for network, desktop, supported applications and telecommunications functions for Office and Shop personnel at all locations.
  • Maintain active communication with departmental areas to aid with changing business needs.
  • Document current processes and provide options for alternative solutions to increase efficiency by applying technology
  • Maintain physical inventory of IT computing assets for both servers and desktops at all company locations.
  • Create and maintain IT standards in accordance with applicable regulations and company direction
  • Work closely with IT Systems Manager in developing and improving IT documentation and work standards.
  • Education and Experience :

  • 2 year degree in MIS, or Computer Science (may substitute 2 years business experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years business experience in IT operations in position of desktop support or equivalent activities.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and common business applications such as email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with networked computers and common file services in a Microsoft server environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Hyper-V Environment.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise iSCSI SAN environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL database concepts and operations.
  • Familiarity with Network switches, firewalls and cabling technologies.
  • Familiarity with business backup solutions in Virtual and / or Physical environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server and Desktop Operating Systems.
  • Skills :

  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Thorough and detail oriented
  • Ability to work nights and weekends and additional hours as needed
  • Ability to assist non-technical people
  • Ability to learn new technical skills quickly
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift computer equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to assist others in lifting or maneuvering computer equipment such as monitors, fax machines, or printers 51-100 pounds on occasion.
