Overview

The Heavy Haul Lowboy Driver is an experienced and confident transportation professional who is responsible for safely and efficiently operating lowboy tractor trailers transporting large and heavy construction equipment to and from job sites throughout the greater Denver Metro area. The Heavy Haul Lowboy Driver will work predominantly during the night to relocate equipment or in the early mornings, Monday through Saturday. Overtime and weekend work is necessary and expected of this position. Lowboy Drivers need to be knowledgeable of DOT FMCSA regulations pertaining to transportation of oversized loads.

TOTAL COMPENSATION

$29.52 to $47.21 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures proper and safe loading, unloading, securing, and transporting of heavy construction equipment.
  • Plans best routes for delivery of heavy equipment taking into consideration height, weight, and width restrictions.
  • Works with Foreman, Superintendents, and Transportation Department to coordinate heavy equipment relocations from job site to job site and / or rental equipment yards.
  • Ensures all shipping documentation required to move heavy equipment is readily available for DOT inspection and that appropriate and updated truck permits are available.
  • Complies with all regulatory agency and company safety directives.
  • Completes thorough load check inspections before each departure, ensuring that load is secure and truck is in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Completes and files, in a precise and timely manner, all vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections and log items as required by government agencies.
  • Reports all accidents involving driver, company equipment, and / or private property.
  • Works with route dispatch to optimize fleet utilization and project deliveries.
  • Proactively identifies potential delivery and pick-up problems and alerts relevant parties before they result in service issues.
  • Accurately completes driving ticket documentation.
  • Complies with all regulatory agency and company safety directives.
  • Contacts dispatcher to handle pick-up or delivery issues that may result in customer dissatisfaction or project delays.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and weight limits.
  • Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company's primary mode of communication.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience transporting heavy construction equipment.
  • Possession and maintenance of valid Class A CDL Driver License and good motor vehicle record (MVR) to pass and maintain insurability guidelines.
  • Ability to pass and maintain DOT safety sensitive FMCSA requirements in regard to pre- and post-employment drug screening and DOT physical.
  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to prioritize effectively, work independently, manage time, multitask, and handle stress.
  • Highly effective communicator with the ability to interact positively and professionally with customers, vendors, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized in approach to and completion of assignments.
  • Ability to pass driving evaluation and work history verification.
  • Attention to detail when planning routes and road restrictions as well as completing load tickets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • At least 21 years of age.

    This job requires the ability to do and understand basic math equations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Primary functions require sitting for extended periods of time while driving to be (un)loaded. The position also requires the physical ability and mobility to repeatedly kneel, crawl, push, pull and climb to and from the tractor cabin or trailer as required by task. Further requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently throughout the course of work shift and the ability to use a broom or shovel to clean trailer of residual material.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Driving most of the time, exposed to traffic and off-road conditions and subject to continuous vibration and periodic bouncing on uneven surfaces. Outside work at times, including exposure to variant weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
