Associate Dean Of Academic And Faculty Affairs (College Of Nursing)
The College of Nursing invites applications for the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This is an opportunity for an extraordinary academic leader with a deep understanding of Nursing education and practice to oversee our academic affairs and operations to help shape the future of Nursing education at the University of Arizona. We are seeking candidates with a strong academic leadership record to serve as an advocate for students and to provide expert knowledge, vision, and direction in strategic planning for the College's academic mission.
The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.
The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Nursing and will provide vision and strategic oversight in all matters relating to academic affairs in the College. This includes key areas such as : admissions and student affairs; curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation; accreditation; clinical placements; and simulation-based learning. As a member of the Dean's administrative leadership team, the Associate Dean will work collaboratively with peers, faculty, and staff, to ensure excellence in the delivery of our academic mission.

The duties and responsibilities include :
- Provide expert knowledge, vision, and direction in strategic planning for the College's academic mission.
- Oversee all education and student service programs within the College to ensure diverse student engagement, learning, and progress.
- Oversee and strengthen financial and operational performance of academic affairs within the College to support strategic initiatives.
- Oversee curricular affairs processes and services within the College, leading and facilitating strategically aligned program and curricular development, assessment, and revision activities, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
- Strengthen internal and external relationships and expand collaborative partnerships to fulfill the educational mission and strategic goals of the College.
- Oversee simulation-based teaching and learning and ensure adequate resources to support state-of-the-art clinical / patient care simulation across academic programs and campuses.
- Oversee clinical placement activities, ensuring that sufficient placement opportunities and quality learning experiences exist for all pre-licensure and advanced practice nursing students.
- Lead the development and implementation of an enrollment management plan for the College's academic programs and oversee all enrollment management activities on an ongoing basis.
- Facilitates the College response to national, regional, and local trends in nursing, healthcare, and nursing education to assure quality and competitiveness in nursing education prelicensure and advanced nursing programs.
- Represents the College at the University level and leads in implementation of university-wide initiatives related to academic affairs.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships within the College, University of Arizona Health Sciences, across the University, and at the State and National levels to facilitate the College's educational mission and implementation of academic programs.
- Provide support to Chairs of Academic Programs for faculty professional development including, but not limited to : new faculty orientation and onboarding, faculty events and training.
- Collaborates with CON HR to implement / update policies related to faculty affairs in conjunction with university policies.
- Support and advises, as needed, the faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee, including interfacing with the Provost's Office when necessary.
- Advises Dean on matters related to faculty appointment, promotion, tenure as needed.
- Serves as ad hoc advising member of college elected Faculty Council.
- Facilitates review and revision of College Faculty and Staff Governance structure to ensure successful implementation of college mission and vision.
- Facilitates the process of faculty workload documentation and transparency.
- Facilitates the process of faculty annual evaluation in collaboration with Academic Division Chairs to ensure equity and compliance with university policy.
- Represents the College at the University level; leads in implementation of university wide initiatives related to faculty affairs.
- Provides oversight of management / reporting related to CON Faculty Grievances.
Minimum qualifications include :
Doctorate degree in Nursing or related discipline.Academic credentials to support the rank of Associate Professor or above.Record of experience with educational administration and leadership in nursing.Preferred qualifications include :
In addition to a doctorate degree, the ideal candidate would have earned other degrees in Nursing (e.g. a BSN or MSN).Five (5) or more years of teaching and / or program leadership experience in a nursing undergraduate or graduate curriculum.Experience leading curriculum / program development and evaluation for both in-person and online nursing programs.Experience overseeing or directly leading an office of student affairs.Experience with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation.Record of involvement in clinical, academic, and / or educational societies at national level with a track record of peer-reviewed publications in area of educational scholarship (e.g. assessment, evaluation, curriculum, academic culture, admissions, etc.)Prior administrative leadership experience with responsibility for personnel, budgeting, and other resource management.Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizational culture.Demonstrated success leading faculty and staff through a period of organizational growth and change.The position is Exempt, Full Time, with 40 hours per week, a full-time equivalency (FTE) of 1.0, and a fiscal year calendar.
