Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned SharePoint Architect to lead the redesign and migration of the Minnesota Department of Health's intranet from a legacy Liferay platform to SharePoint Online (modern communication site) . This role will oversee architecture, governance, content rebuild, and implementation of best practices to deliver a user-friendly, accessible, and scalable intranet solution.

Responsibilities

Define overall SharePoint Online architecture , governance model, and content strategy.

Rebuild ~1,000 HTML pages and ~600 images into modern SharePoint Communication Sites using OOTB web parts (Text, Image, Quick Links, Hero).

Design and implement taxonomy and metadata structures to improve navigation and findability.

Architect and configure search enhancements (bookmarks, promoted results, metrics, zero-result tuning).

Establish and document editorial workflow : contributors draft, Communications team reviews / publishes.

Ensure accessibility compliance ( WCAG 2.1 AA ) across templates and site design.

Plan and manage phased content migration (pilot + waves), ensuring 1% broken links at launch.

Provide guidance on document management decisions (link to S3 vs. partial ingest vs. defer).

Deliver training, governance documentation, and dashboards for usage, search, and adoption metrics.

Advise MNIT / MDH leadership on decision gates, approvals SLA, and governance cadence.

Required Skills

12+ years of SharePoint experience with at least 5+ years in SharePoint Online (modern sites) .

Proven success in architecting and delivering large intranet migration / rebuild projects .

Strong expertise in PnP provisioning, Graph / REST APIs, and SharePoint templates .

Deep knowledge of governance, taxonomy design, and search optimization .

Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance and template-driven design.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to drive decision-making.

Preferred Skills

Prior experience with government or healthcare intranets .

Knowledge of AWS S3 integration / migration decisions.

Experience in usability, adoption training, and metrics dashboards .
