About the Position

In this role, you will :

  • Lead strategic planning, budgets, and change management initiatives for the Lifeguard Division.
  • Oversee daily operations, major incidents, and direct supervision of Lifeguard Captains and staff.
  • Hire, mentor, evaluate, and develop employees while fostering team growth and performance.
  • Coordinate with county departments, public safety agencies, and community partners to support operations and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations while managing equipment, logistics, and training.
  • Build strong community relationships and represent the division through outreach, programs, and professional partnerships.

About the Schedule

Work Hours :

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Typical Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.

    • As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

    About You

    To be considered for this role, you must have the following :

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and 4 years of job-related experience in Open Water Beach Lifeguarding, Aquatic Programming, or Open Water Beach Lifeguarding Management.
  • An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and 6 years of job-related experience in Open Water Beach Lifeguarding, Aquatic Programming, or Open Water Beach Lifeguarding Management.
  • Year-for-year experience may substitute for the college degree (8 years of related experience minimum).
  • 2 (or more) years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

    • The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and / or abilities :

  • FL-certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). (Must obtain within 18 months of employment; we can help with this!)
  • NIMS / ICS certifications 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. (Must obtain within 12 months from the date of hire; we can help with this!)
  • Apply technical knowledge, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions in emergency and time-sensitive situations.
  • Lead, manage, and motivate staff through planning, scheduling, training, and performance oversight.
  • Analyze data, solve problems, and prepare clear, comprehensive reports.
  • Communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Perform physically demanding work under challenging conditions while utilizing essential software and tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RMS, LMS).

    • Subject to Passing Substance Screening : This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.

    Physical Demands : Employees in this role must occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 lbs.

    Starting Pay Range : $75,233.60 - $83,000.00
