Position Summary :
The Mill / Turn Lathe Programmer is responsible for programming, setting up, and optimizing CNC mill / turn machines to produce precision components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong technical expertise in CNC programming, tooling selection, and process improvement to ensure efficient, high-quality production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for mill / turn lathes using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Fusion 360, etc.).
- Set up and operate mill / turn CNC machines for first article and prototype runs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T symbols to ensure part accuracy.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and work-holding methods for each job.
- Troubleshoot and resolve programming or machining issues to improve cycle time, tool life, and part quality.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to design specifications.
- Verify part conformance using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs.
- Maintain accurate records of programs, setups, and process improvements.
- Ensure machines are properly maintained, cleaned, and operated safely according to company and OSHA standards.
- Provide training and support to machine operators as needed.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.Minimum 3–5 years of CNC programming and setup experience in a mill / turn or multi-axis environment.Strong knowledge of G-code and M-code programming, as well as experience with CAM software.Proven experience working with complex parts, tight tolerances, and multiple setups.Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials (aluminum, steel, stainless, plastics, etc.).Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.Proficient in precision measurement and quality inspection techniques.Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a shop environment with exposure to noise and coolants.Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for detailed work.Benefits :
