Physical Requirements : The employee is required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, and reach. The employee must frequently lift and / or carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move 40 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
Qualifications : Registered pharmacist currently licensed by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy to engage in pharmacist care. Graduate of an accredited School or College of Pharmacy with B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Individual may not be on the government exclusion lists as determined by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and System for Award Management (SAM)
Basic Functions : Will direct pharmacy staff in absence of the pharmacy manager. The staff pharmacist is responsible for ensuring that the standards for accuracy, productivity and customer relations are maintained while on duty. The staff pharmacist will ensure that patients receive the proper prescriptions and services (and the right to receive consultation as required by law) while on duty. Requires the ability to resolve customer complaints in a prompt and confident manner, may involve the pharmacy manager as necessary. This position will require frequent communication between all pharmacy employees along with consultation with the Pharmacy Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- While on duty, ensures that the pharmacy complies with all state and federal laws, regulations and rules governing the practice of pharmacy
- During the two (2) year reporting period, the staff pharmacist completes the state- required continuing education units (CEU), which are approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE)
- Ensures that all required signage is displayed in the appropriate places within the pharmacy, when the pharmacist is temporarily absent from the pharmacy
- While on duty, wears appropriate name and position identification, indicating self as pharmacy manager
- Ensures that all pharmacy records and inventories are maintained in accordance with state and federal laws, regulations and rules
- Ensures proper storage of drugs to prevent loss and deterioration
- Monitors medication returns and outdated drugs closely
- Monitors and adjusts department buying and ordering for maximum customer service, inventory control, inventory turns, and operational efficiency
- Maintains proper records of purchases and dispensing of drugs
- Prepares and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by performing the following duties :
Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed
Receives patient prescriptions by various means : oral, written, fax or electronic, as well as those transferred from other pharmaciesDirects pharmacy workers engaged in preparing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticalsAnswers questions and provides counseling to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage of pharmaceuticals and any other information related to patient care, as deemed appropriate, using own professional judgmentWhile on duty, maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of pharmacy and controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugsEnsures data is accurate, such as patient’s name, prescribed medication and cost, for the purpose of maintaining the pharmacy’s files, charge system, and inventoryPerforms drug utilization reviews accurately for all patient recordsInstructs interns and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacyOther duties may be assigned
