We are seeking energetic team members for our morning Y-Kids Program. Y-Kids is a structured before and after school program that offers a great start to every school day. Staff facilitate education and recreation opportunities, fun physical activities, healthy snacks, and positive reinforcement. With a strong focus on STEM, we encourage innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity in all our kids.
Position Summary
Assistant Teachers are responsible for supporting the daily operations of the site by providing high-quality and responsive care to children and families in a setting that is inclusive for children of all abilities.
Essential Functions
- Assist in planning and implementing curriculum within established guidelines and prepare necessary supplies and equipment for relevant program activities.
- Work cooperatively with all staff to ensure the quality of the program.
- Help to achieve YMCA Child Care program goals by promoting individual growth and exploration, recognizing each child's needs while providing opportunities to enrich their development.
- Care for the health and well-being of children while they are in the program. Give first aid treatment when necessary and report any incidents or injuries promptly to parent, director, and branch as necessary.
- Provide appropriate and consistent discipline methods that reinforce positive behaviors in an age-appropriate manner.
- Report and document notable behavior and situations to the appropriate supervisor, according to policies and procedures.
- Initiate, strengthen, and maintain good communication—both verbal and non-verbal—with all school personnel, families, children, parents, and other community agencies.
- Maintain required program records.
- Attend and actively participate in regular program activities, department trainings, staff meetings, and special events as scheduled.
- Keep the center clean and presentable at all times.
- Ensure Licensing standards / regulations are met at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalentUpon hire, unless already achieved, must enroll in at least 3 units of Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university per semester, until 12 units are successfully completed with a grade of C or betterOne year of Early Childhood classroom experience preferred, but not required, volunteer or paid experience will be consideredAbility to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the communityAt least 18 years of agePre-employment health screening and TB clearanceCurrent certificates for Pediatric First Aid and CPR, including a total of 15 hours of preventative health and safety training or completion of this training within 90 days of hireLiveScan fingerprint and criminal record clearanceEqual Opportunity Employer.
