Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Work Experience
1+ year experience working as an acute care Patient Care Technician (PCT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or 1+ year experience as acute care dialysis technician
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire (Required)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Phlebotomy certification (Preferred)
- Dialysis technician certification by CMS approved state certification program or national certification program (Preferred)
Essential Functions
Receives patient into the treatment area and performs patient data collection and documents appropriately in the EMRMonitors and documents the status of vascular accesses using proper cannulation techniques in accordance with hospital vascular access procedureDocuments patient observations and seeks guidance when abnormalities are noted in patient's parametersMonitors and documents in EMR : patient's vital signs, fluid therapy administration, and any other appropriate treatments performed.Observe hospital policy and procedures for infection control and safetyObtain blood samples per policy and procedure and appropriately send them to the laboratorySets up and monitors dialysis machines and reverse osmosis water system for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms, and makes appropriate adjustments before, during, and after the dialysis treatmentPerform safety checks as directed by the registered nurse prior to, during, and following treatmentsReviews dialysis prescription and notes the physical and mental condition of the patient through observation and interview. Document observations appropriately in the EMRDismantles, cleans, and disinfects dialysis machines and other equipment according to hospital infection control policies and proceduresObtains and sends water and machine cultures to designated labNotifies Biomedical Technician of any equipment malfunctionsAct as a role model and coach for other teammatesPerforms clerical duties as needed which may include filing, answering phones, ordering supplies, copying, and faxingAdditional Duties
