Activity Instructor - Photography / Videography ( PS 297 )

The FILM Activity Instructor will teach and facilitate a youth centered Activity in the area of Photography and Graphics, including two 90 sec media presentations.

Reports To : Program Manager

Location : COMPASS PS 297 - 700 Park Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11206

Hours : Up to 15 Hours / Week, Non-Exempt (Sept. - June). Schedule : Monday-Friday 2 : 30pm-5 : 30pm.

Major Duties

  • 2-4 classes per week.
  • Develop and / or follow a sequenced Curriculum based on students’ interest. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth.
  • Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable.
  • Provide basic hands-on knowledge of camera and operation, both video and photography.
  • Ensure students will be prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in two culminating events.
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.
  • Foster a youth development, strength-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
  • Responsible for the setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
  • Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with professional experience.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience and / or training relevant to the position required.
  • Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and / or youth development perspective.
