This recruitment is for a Public Service Commission Common Carrier Inspector position with the Maryland Public Service Commission.

Position Duties
To conduct inspections of the vehicles and equipment used by taxicabs, sedans, vans, buses and limousines to determine if the vehicles and other equipment of the carrier are being operated and maintained in accordance with the laws, regulations and schedules promulgated by the Public Service Commission.
Inspection Duties 80%
Testify at administrative proceedings, such as Commission hearings or in a court of law, regarding safety inspection decisions; 10%
Prepare forms and memoranda for review concerning vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance and other matters concerning vehicle safety; 9%
Joint Safety Inspection Initiatives : Participate in joint safety initiatives such as the National Passenger Carrier Strike Force ("Strike Force"), roadside safety
Minimum Qualifications
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience : Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline or diesel-powered motor vehicles or in the inspection of such vehicles for the purpose of ensuring their safe operating condition.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have successfully completed an approved course in North American Standard Commercial Vehicle Inspection (Part A and Part B).
Possession of a current American Vehicle Standard Passenger Vehicle Inspection Certification is also preferred.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Special Requirements
Employees in this classification must successfully complete the North American Standard Vehicle Inspection training course as prescribed by the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police during the probationary period.
