Laboratory Manager

As our laboratory operations expand and mature, the Laboratory Manager will play a key role in building scalable systems to ensure long-term efficiency and success. This role offers significant growth potential, evolving alongside the company to meet the increasing complexity of our work. The Laboratory Manager will lead all aspects of lab operations, safety compliance, inventory, vendor coordination, and facility support while also managing core administrative and office functions. Serving as the go-to resource for both lab and office needs, this individual will be vital in supporting our mission-driven team as we advance novel gene therapies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of lab spaces to ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant research environment.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all lab-related needs, including safety compliance, maintenance issues, and vendor coordination.
  • Oversee lab equipment operations, including preventative maintenance, calibration, repair, and service contract management.
  • Coordinate annual certification of biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, and other regulated lab infrastructure.
  • Monitor lab safety practices; conduct routine inspections, ensure adherence to SOPs, and lead annual safety training.
  • Onboard new lab staff and ensure proper training in safety and operational procedures.
  • Manage consumables inventory and procurement.
  • Office & Facility Management
  • Serve as liaison with building management and service providers for office and facility-related needs.
  • Manage office supplies, services, vendor relationships, and minor facility improvements.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding logistics (e.g., desks, IT setup, lab access).
  • Assist with organizing internal meetings, site visits, and company events.
  • Perform general administrative support and special projects as needed.
  • Manage office inventory and procurement

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a life science discipline or equivalent experience; advanced degree a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in lab operations or facilities management, preferably in biotech or gene therapy.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EH&S, BSL-2, etc.).
  • Experience with inventory systems, procurement processes, and vendor negotiation.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment and wear multiple hats.
