Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Store Manager with all daily operations, including merchandising, pricing, marketing, supervising, scheduling, sales, and training. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the pulling of merchandise in the DC and delivery to the store location. In the absence of the Store Manager, this position will assume the manager’s duties.
THRIFT STORE SUPERVISOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Assist the Store Manager to oversee general store operations relating to merchandising, inventory control, training, sales. Assist cashiers and help in the register area, as needed.
- Communicate regularly with the Store Manager about store issues.
- Responsible for daily cash handling, credit card transactions and bookkeeping including night drop deposits in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Actively engage customers on the sales floor to increase donations and merchandise sales to ensure monthly revenue goals are met.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting customers and donors and responding to customer inquiries / complaints.
- Promote repeat business and word-of-mouth advertising through building excellent customer relations.
- Ensure employees, CLDP and volunteers are properly trained in store operations and procedures.
- Ensures physical maintenance, and cleanliness and attractiveness of store and displays.
- Enforce and maintain safety and all health and security policies and procedures.
- Work with Warehouse Staff to pull merchandise for the store, load it on truck / van, and drive truck / van to store location.
- Conducts tasks and other projects as assigned by the Thrift Store Manager.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.Requires manual dexterity for regular repetitive finger motion and frequently reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting of objects and operating equipment.Requires ability to operate a pallet jack & Forklift.WORK ENVIRONMENT :

This position works predominantly indoors in a store, warehouse, or dock environment all of which are high traffic settings involving people, equipment and / or machinery.The area is generally clean, orderly, properly lit, ventilated, and does have constant foot traffic from employees, volunteers, vendors and visitors.May be exposed to dust in the performance of certain duties.Noise levels are considered moderate to high.Requirements :
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES :
High school diploma or equivalent.Must have a minimum of 3 years of Thrift Store experience or retail operations.Two years shift supervision preferred.Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean DMV record and the ability to be added to the company auto policy.Be able to operate a Forklift.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Ability to communicate effectively in both orally and in writing.Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written, a plus.Must have strong customer service skills.Must have working knowledge of Microsoft OfficeMust have strong organizational skills.Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral.Must have strong time management skills.Must be detail oriented.Must have the ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment.Must be able to be an effective team member and handle project leadership responsibility.Must be able to occasionally travel locally.#ZR
