Overview

The business transactions Associate Attorney serves the firm's clients by preparing documents and providing legal advice pursuant to the guidance and direction of supervising attorneys. The Associate performs administrative tasks to support the operations and record keeping of the firm. The Associate is encouraged to build a personal book of business and originate business for the firm. Depending on the Associate's legal skills, experience, and management abilities, the Associate may be the responsible attorney for certain client relationships.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base Salary of $120,000 with incentive pay that can exceed $150,000. Total cash compensation could exceed $270,000, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the clients' problems and goals, whether they are legal, financial, or operational.
  • Proactively and decisively take action, pursuant to the guidance and direction of supervising attorneys, to help clients make better decisions, resolve issues, and achieve their goals.
  • Provide innovative, practical, and comprehensive solutions to the clients' problems.
  • Develop and maintain strong bonds with the firm's clients.
  • Prepare documents, memos, and messages that meet the firm's high standards of excellence and that require minimal corrections or modifications by other attorneys.
  • Communicate effectively, efficiently, and promptly with clients, attorneys, and others to ensure the right people have the right information at the right time.
  • If applicable, manage the client matters for which the Associate is the responsible attorney—e.g., obtain signed engagement letters, update conflicts information, enter client data in the practice management app, send accurate and timely billing statements, and collect fees.
  • Achieve collections on at least 330 billed hours per quarter.
  • If applicable, mentor newer attorneys.
  • Comply with the firm's policies and procedures.
  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
  • Provide pro bono services or volunteer in other capacities.
  • Take the initiative to improve the firm's operations, branding, and finances.
  • Represent the firm and its people well and uphold the firm's brand and reputation—i.e., be professional.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work in the firm's office in Vancouver, WA.
  • Substantial experience in preparing contracts and other legal documents for businesses is highly preferred.
  • Experience with real estate transactions is preferred.
  • A strong track record of contributing meaningfully and positively to a team of coworkers.
  • Bachelor's degree and doctorate in jurisprudence.
  • Active license to practice law in Washington is required.
  • Active license to practice law in Oregon is preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient and self-motivated.
  • Able to set and achieve high standards.
