Position Description

Under direct supervision, supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments and materials. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

Major / Essential Functions

• Practices infection control procedures according to policy guidelines in Policy and Procedures Manual.
• Exposes dental X-Rays as ordered by the treating professional.
• Counts instruments and sharps and maintains logs of use.
• Documents information for dental record.
• Assist dentist or hygienist at chair side.
• Answers routine questions and refers others to the dentist.
• Takes vital signs and records information in record prior to procedures.

Required Qualifications

High School or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course is required. Dental Assistant registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

Since 1989,  TTUHSC Managed Care  has served as a healthcare delivery service, providing high quality, low cost healthcare to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system.
