About the Role
The Lead Meter Technician reports to the Meter Services Supervisor at Bermex. This role helps supervise Meter Installers, ensures all meter installations meet quality and safety standards, and acts as a liaison between the Meter Services Supervisor and Meter Installers. The position requires strong communication and leadership skills, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility to address day-to-day needs.
What You'll Do
Assist in Daily Operations :
- Assist the supervisor in monitoring daily production, quality, and field-related issues.
- Assist with water line breaks and repairs, as needed.
- Perform audits on work completed by Meter Installers to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
- Participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Act as a liaison between the Supervisor and Meter Installers to facilitate team communication.
- Schedule and monitor performance tasks, install meters, and perform validations.
Performs Meter Installations :
Exchange the following electric meter types : 1s, 2s, 2s 320, 12s, 25s, 9s, 16s.Follow all procedures in the Field Services Manual for safely exchanging electric meters, gas modules, or water meters on assigned routes. Each route differs and production expectations are set by the supervisor.Identify hazards or unsafe conditions at meter sites and report them accordingly.Use handheld devices to collect data points (site inspection, address verification, old / new meter numbers, readings, photos, GPS, and comments) and maintain a paper backup route sheet.Ensure routes are loaded on handheld devices and that all tools are available in the work vehicle.Understand and follow all job-specific procedures.Ensure timely completion of all assigned routes.Return keys, handhelds, and paperwork as required, and return old meter inventory to appropriate areas daily.Enter all meter inventory prior to leaving the field according to route requirements.Provides Customer Communication & Safety :
Communicate with customers daily and follow all outlined customer service policies.Provide general information about meter services to customers when applicable.Use telephones, tablets, and / or computers to communicate.Wear PPE during meter exchanges and promote PPE safety as part of routine operations.Adhere to Field Services Manual procedures for safe meter exchanges on assigned routes, with production expectations set by the supervisor.Operate a company vehicle as required and perform a daily safety walk-around and vehicle inspection when applicable.Other duties as assigned.About You
Must Haves :
Education : None required. Must be 18 years of age or older.Experience : At least 1 year installing water, gas, and / or electric meters, or 1 year of underground plumbing related to water services. Upon hire, candidate must complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training and possess a valid driver's license.Nice to Have :
Education : High School Diploma or GED.Experience : 3+ years in meter installation and / or underground plumbing; 1 year with same employer or 6+ months in related roles.Your Skills :
Ability to multi-task, work independently and as part of a team.Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling.Strong time management to complete daily routes efficiently.Excellent communication with management and customers.Ability to interact professionally with unhappy customers and strong problem-solving attention to detail.Ability to walk long distances and work in various weather conditions; good knowledge of local geography.Additional notes : This role requires physical stamina (standing / walking, up to 50 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs routinely, up to 10 lbs continuously) and the ability to walk up to 20 miles per day in all weather. Willingness to work flexible schedules is essential.
