C3 AI is seeking an inspiring and strategic Director of Applications Software Engineering to lead and grow our high-performing applications software engineering teams. In this critical, highly visible role, you'll provide leadership and direction to a group of bright, ambitious self-starters, guiding them in a fast-moving organization where motivated engineers tackle challenging and impactful problems daily.

You'll be a key driver in shaping our product roadmap and strategic team goals, working closely with senior leadership. This role requires a passionate, driven individual with a strong vision for developing innovative software solutions and fostering a culture of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to multiple applications engineering teams, empowering them to achieve ambitious goals and excel in their work.
  • Grow the Applications Engineering organization by leading recruitment efforts, identifying top talent, and fostering the professional development and career growth of existing engineers.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with senior management, product leadership, and technical architects to align engineering efforts with company vision and strategic objectives.
  • Drive release and sprint planning for multiple teams, ensuring efficient execution and prioritization of initiatives across the Applications Engineering domain.
  • Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior technical contributors, building a strong leadership pipeline within the organization.
  • Lead C3 AI’s Applications R&D efforts, from concept to delivery, taking full ownership of significant deliverables and driving innovation.
  • Define and champion the architectural vision and technical strategy for our application suite, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Maintain the ability to be a hands-on technical contributor when needed, guiding the entire development lifecycle from conception and design through release.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; Master's degree or PhD preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive work experience in an enterprise software company, with a strong focus on applications development.
  • 5+ years of significant leadership experience managing highly technical teams, including experience managing other managers or leading multiple teams.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, demonstrating a strong bias for action and a willingness to dive deep to resolve complex challenges.
  • Extensive project and program management experience overseeing large-scale software initiatives from end to end.
  • Deep expertise in Agile software development methodologies and their application at scale.
  • Demonstrated history of end-to-end ownership for major projects and product areas.
  • Exceptional listening, communication, and presentation skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including executive leadership.
  • Extensive software design and architecture expertise in building robust, scalable, and secure enterprise applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of data structures, algorithms, profiling / optimization, and object-oriented and functional programming paradigms.
  • Strong programming skills, ideally with expertise in JavaScript and related modern web technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with building high-performance, large-scale, and user-friendly software applications and tools for complex domains.
  • A disciplined approach to testing, quality assurance, and fostering a culture of high-quality software delivery.

    California Base Pay Range

    $224,000—$270,000 USD
