Overview
Lead Electrical Engineer role at Zachry Group. Location : Charlotte, North Carolina. The position involves leading electrical design efforts for power plant projects within the Electrical Department, with opportunities to work on challenging design projects in the Power industry.
Responsibilities
- Apply general design practices and lead a team to implement design for installation.
- Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving planning and conducting complete project scopes.
- Lead in selecting and adapting plans, techniques, and designs; coordinate work with the project team.
- Review, analyze, and integrate technical requirements and design approaches; ensure technical adequacy and adherence to requirements.
- Demonstrate strong electrical design and execution knowledge while understanding other discipline design requirements.
- Lead and coordinate work efforts within the discipline project team to complete assignments.
- Provide field support including verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, on-site procurement, and installation supervision.
What You'll Do
Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge in broad areas of assignments.Work on major projects or several projects with complex designs.Plan and schedule team activities; estimate specifications, requisitions, calculations, and quantities.Develop budget requirements and monitor team performance and budget compliance.Develop staffing forecasts for installation and lead a team of engineers and designers to meet project schedules.Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations and with other engineering disciplines.Review project documents for conformity, quality assurance, and adherence to codes, standards, and requirements.Identify interface requirements for existing facilities and participate in constructability reviews.Develop new techniques or improved processes, materials, or products.Support field construction and commissioning activities; monitor and report on discipline status to Project Manager / Leadership.Participate in client meetings and mentor junior staff.Provide design guidance for raceway systems (underground ductbanks, cable trays, conduits), lighting systems (interior, exterior, roadway), and grounding systems.Develop schematics and wiring diagrams, and one-line / three-line diagrams; coordinate with other crafts to ensure a complete, coordinated design.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a 4-year ABET-accredited college.Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering design experience on power and / or industrial projects.Professional Engineer license with ability to obtain licensure in other US states.Prior lead engineer experience with project execution.Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, IEEE / ANSI standards, and NEMA standards.Experience with medium and low voltage equipment and cables.Strong communication skills; able to interface with senior leadership; organized, self-directed, and able to multi-task.Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Preferred Qualifications
Lead electrical engineer on Engineer, Procure, and Construct projects.15–20 years of electrical engineering design experience for Combined Cycle Power Plants.Experience with OTI ETAP software for electrical system analysis and relay coordination.Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred.Experience with switchyards, large power transformers, generator circuit breakers, and other large power equipment.Procurement experience for electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, switchgears, cables, etc.).Physical Demands
Communication in person, via telephone, and other methods; manual dexterity and coordination; ability to lift / move objects safely.
Work Environment
General office environment with occasional work at industrial sites. Noise levels may be moderate to high; job sites may include equipment, materials, and personnel requiring movement and signaling.
