About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : RN (Registered Nurse)

Specialty : ICU (Intensive Care Unit)

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 12H Nights

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : Minimum 1 year of ICU experience

License : Valid Registered Nurse license

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS required

Must-Have : Vent and trach experience

Description :

This position involves working in the ICU with current patients primarily affected by COVID-19, as well as other critical conditions.

Candidates must have experience with vents and trachs due to the rapid deterioration of COVID patients.

The ICU has two types of patient care areas : a clean unit and a COVID unit, both requiring different approaches to critical care.

Staffing ratios aim for 1 : 2 in the ICU, although some rare instances may require 1 : 3 for lower acuity patients.

In the PCU, the ratio generally is 1 : 4 or occasionally 1 : 5, based on patient acuity.

The ability to read and interpret telemetry and monitor strips is essential.

RN staff are expected to have experience with all critical care drips, including sedation.

There is no dedicated IV team; however, several staff members are certified to assist with difficult intravenous access.

Respiratory Therapists are in-house 24 / 7 to manage vents and provide necessary treatments.

Nurses may occasionally be required to perform tasks typically assigned to nursing aides when necessary.

Flexibility and teamwork are central to ensuring high-quality patient care in this dynamic environment.

Common diagnoses include DKA, sepsis, pulmonary edema, CHF, COPD, and various other acute conditions.

Staff must be willing to float between units and engage with a diverse patient population.

Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, and holiday shifts will be part of the permanent staff rotation.

Uniform colors include navy or black scrubs, with specific colors assigned for the COVID unit.

The organization prides itself on a supportive environment with optimal staffing based on current patient acuity.
