Job Summary

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers' portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Space Environment and Weather Programs (SEWP) directorate is the lead FFRDC working with SSC SYD 810 / ETW branch for acquisition of DOD Space Based Environmental Monitoring (SBEM) and Space Weather programs. Members of SEWP provides technical assessment and mission assurance for EO / IR Weather System (EWS), EO / IR Weather System Geostationary (EWS-G), Weather System Follow-on : Microwave (WSF-M) and several other missions across the acquisition lifecycle.The ETW branch engages with multiple SBEM stakeholders such as NOAA and DOD Weather Centers (557 Weather Wing (WW), Fleet Numerical Meteorological and Oceanographic Center (FNMOC).

This position is based within the Space Environment and Weather Programs (SEWP) Directorate which is at the center of rapidly responding to evolving warfighter needs for various weather and environmental (Space and Terrestrial) sensing.

The Launch Systems Integration Project Engineer ( Project Engineer - Systems Engineer) position is responsible for the assessment of on-going acquisition programs, providing technical leadership for assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) of the assigned system(s), provide technical leadership to support Launch Vehicle and Space Vehicle (LV / SV) integration and support launch operations.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at the Los Angeles AFB in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

Partner across The Aerospace Corporation's engineering matrix organization to provide the customer with objective, data driven assessments to support programmatic decisions

Interact with government program offices, weather scientists, launch and payload contractors, operational users and other stakeholders in Space Based Environmental Monitoring community

Support system level integration, test and verification activities across the environmental monitoring programs

Leadership at working groups that consist of matrixed Aerospace subject matter experts, SE&I, and SETA personnel to quickly resolve technical challenges and issues

Ability to work with internal (SV Program offices, ETG & contractors) and external (LV program offices to include multi-manifest programs and their associated contractors) organizations, launch site personnel and their associated contractors, etc., to resolve LV / SV issues and SV / launch site conflicts

Support planning and execution of launch rehearsals

Support overall task prioritization and resource management planning and reporting

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Launch Systems Integration Project Engineer ( Project Engineer - Systems Engineer) :

Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent is required

A minimum of (8) years of relevant professional or educational experience is required

Experience in space systems engineering, system integration and performance verification

Experience in spacecraft, payload, and / or launch design and integration

Ability to lead teams of technical experts to review design, solve issues, review requirements verification artifacts, etc.

Familiarity with systems engineering, program management, and / or the ability to integrate multiple technical viewpoints into cohesive systems view

Ability to work effectively with Aerospace peers, internal / external customers, senior staff, and in a team setting

Willing to travel occasionally to customer sites approx. 25% (as required)

This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these :

Advanced degree in a STEM field or equivalent is strongly preferred

Direct experience with DOD, NOAA, NASA launch integration, support activities

Firsthand experience with DOD, NOAA, NASA AI&T efforts

Knowledge of Aerospace's Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) capabilities

Relevant government program office acquisition experience

Experience with cost, schedule, and risk assessment

Communicating effectively in diverse settings, with diverse personnel

Ability to document consistently and regularly status and communications

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$117,300 - $175,900
