Labor & Delivery RN Job Details

Employment Type : Locum tenens (Travel nursing contract)

Location : Clinton, Maryland (20735) – Washington, D.C. metro area

Healthcare Setting : Short-term acute care, teaching hospital

Unit : Labor & Delivery (High risk L&D)

Shift : Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19 : 00 - 07 : 30)

Hours per Week : 36

Contract Duration : 13 weeks (Start : 11 / 3 / 2025 – End : 2 / 2 / 2026)

Call Requirement : 36 hours over 6 weeks; must be on premises within 45 minutes after call

Weekend / Holiday Coverage : Every other weekend / holiday as needed

Float Requirement : Required to float to similar units (Mom / Baby, postpartum)

Scrubs : Provided

Charting System : Cerner

Labor & Delivery RN Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience (high risk L&D required)

At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment

Previous charge nurse experience required

Valid compact RN license or Maryland RN license

Required certifications : AWHONN Intermediate, ACLS, STABLE, NRP, BLS

Must register for C-EFM during compliance phase or within first two weeks of assignment

Preferred certification : C-EFM through NCC

Two supervisor references required

Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

Ability to float to similar units (Mom / Baby, postpartum)

Local candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius

Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities

Deliver expert nursing care to mothers and neonates in a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit

Circulate for C-sections and assist with high-risk obstetric deliveries

Triage obstetrical patients and manage antepartum complications

Monitor and treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns using external fetal monitoring

Serve as preceptor and / or charge nurse as needed

Float to Mom / Baby and postpartum units as required

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams in a teaching hospital environment

Maintain accurate patient documentation using Cerner charting system

Participate in on-call rotation and respond promptly when called
