Communication Specialist-Full Time-Nights

The Communication Specialist works with an interdisciplinary team to connect patients, physicians, and nurses with resources within the Cape Fear Valley health system and external facilities. With a focus on physician to physician linkage for patient transfers and resource allocation of the Cape Fear Valley air and ground ambulances, Communication Specialists meet the dynamic needs of the system to assure patients receive the care they need.

Preferred qualifications include EMS dispatch experience, medical terminology, and aviation terminology. Current and valid North Carolina EMT certification or equivalent is also preferred. Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700 within 90 days of hire is required.

Responsibilities and requirements include :

• Previous experience in EMS, EMS dispatch, medical terminology, and the air medical industry
• Working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, equipment, and supplies employed in pre-hospital care
• Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established procedures and protocols
• Strong understanding of how to effectively move patients throughout the health system with knowledge of capacity and bed availability
• Working knowledge of EPIC, Advance Dispatch, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Outlook
• Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute
• Ability to hear and speak clearly
• Visual acuity correctable in both eyes of 20 / 40
• Manual dexterity for keyboard work
