If so, Metro is excited to recruit you for the Equity Project Manager role.

As the Equity Project Manager, you will project manage organization-wide initiatives led by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Department, including the effort to update the Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (Download PDF reader) (Strategic Plan). This position will ensure the continued development of Metro’s budget equity strategies and partner with Metro staff to assess and track how our programs and policies are advancing the Strategic Plan. This position reports to the DEI Deputy Director and will also work closely with the DEI Director on various projects.

The successful person for this position will possess prior experience managing complex equity-focused projects; applying equity-based research and best practices to program development; convening a diversity of stakeholder groups to advance shared goals; and be a creative problem solver who can work collaboratively in a team to deliver results.

As the Equity Project Manager, you will

  • Utilize project management skills and tools to ensure an update of Metro’s Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (Download PDF reader) including the use of project work plans, oversight of consultants and contractors and effective gathering of input / feedback from key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Metro’s Finance and Regulatory Services department on the continued development and implementation of Metro’s budget equity strategies.
  • Provide technical support to department staff on the utilization of budget equity strategies and equity metrics to support its consistent and integrated use.
  • Support the development, tracking, and reporting of equity metrics identified to measure the implementation of the updated Strategic Plan to Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Provide consultation to Metro staff on equity metric approaches that are accessible and promote transparency and accountability.
  • Assist departments implementing equity metrics systems and on reporting of equity impacts.
  • Conduct research on best practices of different approaches to track and support implementation and successes of strategic plans, which may include data collection and analysis.
  • Report on program progress to a variety of audiences which may include Metro Council, Metro senior management, Metro departments, affiliated advisory committees and work groups and partner organizations and agencies.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the efficacy of key projects, identifies potential obstacles to achieving outcomes and recommends new approaches as needed. Solicits public and partner input; adapts work as appropriate.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Metro’s Research and Policy Analyst to support coordination and alignment of work as it relates to application of agency-wide initiatives / tools.
  • May develop, implement, manage and monitor program budget.
  • Liaise with other departments to provide information on available resources, programs, and / or services and to provide consultation and share expertise.
  • Coordinate special projects and various high-level tasks and deliverables initiated by the DEI Director and / or Deputy Director.

  • Experience managing up and providing effective staffing that supports leadership in effective decision making.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with progressive social change practices, particularly in racial justice and related fields (e.g., poverty, labor / employment, environmental justice, criminal justice, immigration, education, health care, food justice, reproductive justice, LGBTQIA2S+ rights, etc.).
  • Relationship building skills and experience building buy-in and ownership among stakeholders to advance racial equity goals and outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to distill and effectively communicate complex concepts and projects in an accessible way.
  • Experience using data, both quantitative and qualitative, to inform policies, projects and program development.
  • Demonstrate empathy, active listening, and cultural competence in engaging with interested groups to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Ability to provide analysis of policies, programs, laws, etc., identify lessons learned, and apply insights to future projects.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively about how Metro can leverage its resources to address racial inequities.
  • Ability to adapt and pivot to be responsive to dynamic and shifting contexts.
  • Ability to process feedback and input from various interested groups and perspectives to build collaboration and advance shared goals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Minimum qualifications

  • Four years of experience in a similar position and
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an applicable area of study; or
  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

    You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications / transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider them when identifying the most qualified candidates. Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience, including the military, or life experience that are relevant for this position.

  • At least three years of experience advancing racial and / or gender equity through project management or research practices.
  • Project management certification.
