Senior Concept Artist - Overwatch 2

Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, oddities…artists? We are the Overwatch team, passionate gamers at heart, and we’re looking for a new hero to help us make Overwatch 2 - the globe-spanning sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed team-based game.

In Overwatch 2, the nations of Earth are under assault. As the Omnic forces of Null Sector launch a barrage of surprise attacks around the world, the planet’s governments and militaries prove quickly outmatched—and the remnants of the fearless strike force once known as Overwatch rally to make a valiant stand. Now the world’s heroes must each decide whether to answer the call to reemerge, reunite, and serve as a beacon of hope in a new era of crisis.

Your Mission :

Within the Overwatch team, concept art isn’t just the first step, it’s the heartbeat of our heroes. As a Senior Concept Artist, you will live on the front line of development! You’ll shape the visual soul of the game, designing characters that players connect with instantly and remember forever. You’ll collaborate closely with designers and 3D artists to bring new legends to life and reimagine iconic faces with fresh energy and emotional depth.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is in Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities :

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities :

Design compelling character concepts and skins, including character sheets, movement studies, and detailed equipment and weapons breakouts.

Iterating on assets with internal and external artists through paintovers, studies, and group critiques.

Translate feedback into visual direction that aligns with gameplay and narrative goals.

Support 3D artists with clear, actionable feedback and visual guidance.

Champion a culture of creativity, inclusion and respectful collaboration.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

8+ years of experience in games, animation, film or equivalent focused on character concept artwork.

Knowledge & Skills

Mastery of digital tools like Photoshop, Painter, etc.

Deep understanding of human and creature anatomy, form, shape, structure and silhouette.

Strong grasp of light, value, composition, and color.

Ability to take ideas from concept sketch to polished illustration, with an understanding toward real-time implementation.

Portfolio that showcases traditional art principles : composition, shape language, color theory, and visual storytelling.

An understanding of the Overwatch visual style and a passion to evolve it.

Extra Points

A genuine love for games and gameplay-driven design.

Experience designing visuals that support gameplay goals and mechanics.

Solid understanding of 3D tools like Maya, 3Ds Max, Zbrush, or Mudbox.

Strong foundation in traditional arts (figure drawing figure drawing, painting, illustration).

Shipped an AAA title as a concept artist.

Submission Requirements

Portfolio demonstrating relevant artistic skills required

All artwork submissions should be online (e.g. website, blog or online album).

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
