Senior Park Maintenance Worker - Parks Construction

Pay Range : $20.00 / hour to $24.10 / hour, depending on experience

The City of Olathe's Field Operations Division is currently seeking a Senior Park Maintenance Worker to join our Parks Construction team. Our Parks Construction Team has the unique privilege of building parks for the residents of Olathe to enjoy.

In this role you will perform a variety of tasks from concrete to framing to roofing and everything in between. A typical day might include pouring concrete, repairing a structure in a park, and gathering materials for the next project.

We're looking for someone who loves to be outside, has high-energy and patience, is a self-starter, takes pride in what they attach their name to, and wants to do quality work.

Our Parks Construction Crew enjoys :

Schedule : Monday through Friday, 7 : 30 AM to 4 : 00 PM

    The Senior Park Maintenance Worker uses specialized and technical skills to complete and assist with park maintenance and construction projects and repairs. They may also perform maintenance on park equipment and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Performs technical and complex duties including construction of park structures, concrete removal and placement and site grading.
  • Operates heavy machinery including mini excavator, skid steer loader, backhoe; drives a variety of vehicles including trucks, tractors, dump trucks with trailers, and forklift.
  • Maintains a safe job site and work environment following safety standards set forth by City, County, State and Federal agencies.
  • Performs manual labor including lifting, digging, and planting.
  • Assists with daily maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Performs snow removal and may be required to work overtime or respond to emergencies outside of regular hours.
  • Qualifications :

    Experience : Two years of construction and / or maintenance experience is required. Equivalent and relevant education may be substituted for experience.

    Education : High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.

    Licenses and Certifications : A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required. A Class A commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment. May also require specialty certification in assigned area.

    Environmental or Physical Demands : Members of the Parks Construction Crew work outside in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. They are exposed to wind, sun, rain, pollen, allergens, and other elements. This work requires one to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, and reach frequently throughout the day. They lift and carry weight up to 80 pounds independently and up to 160 pounds with someone else. They operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction activities. They climb and descend ladders and stairs and work at heights. Job functions and locations require the need for alertness and safety awareness.
