Janitor Position
Performs a variety of cleaning requiring light physical effort and the use of hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment in the performance of duties. Duties and responsibilities include :
- Maintains restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors.
- Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls.
- Cleans mirrors and water fountains.
- Dusts ledges and woodwork.
- Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
- Notes condition of facilities and reports to supervisor such things as broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance.
- Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, and / or other assigned areas.
- Operates lightweight cleaning equipment (e.g. vacuum cleaner, waxer, and polisher).
- Empties ashtrays and wastebaskets.
- Dusts, waxes, and polishes office furniture.
- Washes walls, windows, blinds, and wall partitions that can be reached without climbing ladders or scaffolds.
- Cleans laundry rooms, washing machines, dryers, and vending machines in locations and other related areas.
- Sweeps, mops, and empties garbage bins next to machines and cleans doors and windows.
- Secures rooms as directed.
- Maintains stock of cleaning materials and implements required to perform assigned duties.
- Notifies supervisor when additional material is needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical demands include light physical effort. Continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds.
Working conditions are indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors. Chance of cuts and bruises.
Qualifications : Six months experience performing cleaning tasks using industrial cleaning equipment. Physical requirements include moderately heavy physical effort occasionally in moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing about 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds are lifted and moved.
