POSITION : Forestry Technician II
LOCATION : Inchelium, Washington
REPORTS TO : District Officer Inchelium Forestry
SALARY : $21.82- $25.30
CLOSING DATE : October 17, 2025
Basic Functions : This is a non-exempt Journeyman level position that performs technical forest management work for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. The incumbent assists professional foresters, the Supervisory Forestry Technician (or Supervisory Forester), or Forestry Technicians of equal or higher grade by performing a variety of technical forestry tasks requiring knowledge of forest biology, related physical sciences, and practical application of standard forestry methods and techniques. Work involves timber sale layout, sale administration on major timber sales, log scaling, presales cruising, forest engineering assignments, fire suppression, and forest development. The role features greater responsibility and contract authority than Forestry Technician I and requires the ability to quickly learn and apply forestry methods and techniques."
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Training :
- High school diploma or equivalent, with coursework in mathematics and science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc). A strong math and science background is highly recommended.
- Three (3) seasons of experience and satisfactory performance at the Forestry Technician I level (including training completed for an approved Training Plan).
- Certification at the Single Resource Boss level within 2 seasons. Documentation in the form of an Overhead Performance rating will be required to verify experience.
- A Forestry Technician degree or a two-year Natural Resource Management degree from an accredited college or institution, AND one (1) year of satisfactory experience at the Forestry Technician I grade level.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities :
Familiarity with forest environments.Working knowledge of timber sale contracts and their requirements.Working knowledge of the various Forest Development contracts and their requirements.Working knowledge of the CCT's 208 Forest Practices / Water Quality Act and its requirements.Knowledge of applicable Tribal and federal regulations as they pertain to forest management activities.Knowledge of applicable Tribal and local federal policies as they pertain to employee.Working knowledge of logging systems, and road layout and construction as they relate to timber sales.Knowledge in the use of tools and equipment specific to forestry operations.Knowledge in the operation of various types of automotive equipment, and the ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles with manual transmissions.Knowledge of various practices used in the management and improvement of forests.Working knowledge of prescribed fire as a tool for meeting forest management objectives.Knowledge of forest fire suppression techniques, up to the level expected of Crew Boss or Single Resource Boss.Ability to identify all local species of trees.Ability to conduct various forest surveys.Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in the outside environment, under all types of weather and terrain conditions.Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.Ability to keep routine written records, with respect to contract files (completion reports, logging progress reports, etc).Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and apply guidelines to varied and specific situations.Ability to interact with Forest Development Contractors, Timber Sale Purchasers, Logging Contractors, Subcontractors, and their employees in a professional manner regarding contract matters.Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed to meet work assignments.Skill in the use of various manual and power tools and equipment used in forestry operations.Working knowledge of various contracts, including precommercial thinning, tree planting, small commercial timber sales, major timber sale contracts, etc.Familiarity and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.Note : Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
