This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s) : AZ, FL, GA, NC and TX.
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Patch Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Database Patch Management team. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert with strong expertise in Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC) patching, OCI patch automation, Oracle RAC patching. Exposure to LCM Fleet operations for patching with OEM would be considered a strong plus. This role requires strong technical expertise in planning and executing patching cycles across ExaCC databases and infrastructure. Role will require managing and applying security patches, PSU / CPU updates, and critical fixes across Oracle environments while ensuring uptime, performance, and compliance with organizational standards.
Responsibilities
Lead, manage and execute ExaCC patching lifecycle (compute nodes, DomU VMs, Grid Infrastructure and Databases).
Plan, schedule and execute OCI patching cycles across ExaCC infrastructure and DomU OS images, compute OS instances.
Experienced with OCI console, CLI and Rest APIs to apply, rollback and monitor patches.
Automate patching workflows using Terraform, Ansible.
Manage Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) patching including GRID and RDBMS, both in-place and out-of-place patch ensuring high availability.
Integrate and manage patching operations using LCM Fleet operations with OEM that includes gold image creation and deployment.
Database patching in RAC and Data Guard enabled environments.
Administer and troubleshoot Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management).
Plan, schedule, and execute quarterly PSU / CPU, Third-Party and one-off patches with minimal downtime.
Perform patch impact assessments, risk evaluations, and rollback strategies.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and cyber security teams to coordinate patch cycles.
Maintain documentation of patching procedures, schedules, and standards.
Troubleshoot patch-related issues, database failures, and post-patch anomalies and provide RCA with remediation.
Drive process improvements to reduce downtime, manual errors, and patching cycle times.
Strong understanding of investigation and remediation techniques for non-patch related vulnerabilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Systems engineer and systems programmer OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Systems engineer and systems programmer
Preferred Skills :
7+ years of hands-on experience with Exadata / ExaCC environments and Oracle Database patching.
Knowledge of Linux OS patching in Exadata / OCI environments.
Hands-on experience with Oracle RAC patching, GRID Infrastructure patching.
Solid understanding of Oracle Exadata ExaCC patching and administration.
Experience with backup and Rollback strategies for ExaCC Infrastructure and DB patching.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex Oracle environments.
Strong scripting skills (Shell / Ansible / Terraform) for patch automation.
Familiarity with ITIL processes (Change / Incident / Problem Management) for ITSM compliance
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Strong expertise in OCI patching automation (OCI CLI / API, OS Image updates, DomU patching, Grid and Database patching).
Nice-to-have's :
Exposure to LCM Fleet patching workflows.
Experience with LCM Fleet maintenance with OEM.
Patch management for OMS and OEM agents.
Preferred Qualifications :
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Exadata Management / OCI Architect equivalent certification.
Experience in large-scale, high-availability, mission-critical environments.
Exposure to cloud-based Oracle solutions (OCI).
Strong security awareness in patching and vulnerability compliance.
Familiarity with vulnerability scanning and reporting tools – Qualys and Brinqa.
