Summary
The patient care technician is responsible for a wide variety oftechnical and clerical procedures. This position works under thedirection and supervision of a Registered Nurse or practice leadership. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) has frequent directpatient contact when performing phlebotomy, specimen collection andspecimen transport. The PCT performs and assists with certain patient rooming activities and for patients according toestablished policies, procedures and guidelines. PCT will be conducting other non-patient care clinic tasks as assigned by the practice.

Certifications and Licensures
BLS - Basic Life Support Required Equivalent Experience - Basic life support is required at time of hire or will be completed at orientation.
PCT - MMH PCT / CNA / EMT / LPN - Certification Required Equivalent Experience - Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the state of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS : Knowledge of medical terminology. Interpersonal skills needed tocommunicate successfully with individuals and groups and interactwith people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done according toMyMichigan Health policy. Mandatory Occupational Safety and HealthAdministration (OHSA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. Ability to fully concentrate on task at hand for extended periodsof time. Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency orcritical situations. Ability to clearly communicate, present ideas, facts, and clinicalinformation. Ability to maintain interpersonal relationships, facilitating taskaccomplishments, cooperating, and resolving conflicts, recognizingneeds and being sensitive to others. Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English. Must handle multiple tasks, get along with others, workindependently, regular and predictable attendance and ability tostay awake.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving publiccontact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latexmaterials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisteddevice and must be able to perform the functions of the job asoutlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisteddevice(s). Frequently required to sit / stand / walk for long periods of time. Mayrequire frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling orcrouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentiallyinfectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, workindependently, regular and predictable attendance and ability tostay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching,grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of thesemovements on a regular to frequent basis.
