The Spiritual Care Department at Hartford Hospital honors and provides spiritual care as an essential dimension of healing. Our Chaplains offer spiritual care to patients, families and staff, supporting each person's unique values and beliefs and collaborating with hospital staff to integrate physical, emotional, and spiritual care for the patient and family.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff and complete spiritual assessments.
- Collaborate with interprofessional care teams, volunteers, and faith communities to integrate physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
- Maintain timely documentation of spiritual care services, including spiritual assessments, involvement, outcomes, and care recommendations.
- Respond to referrals from staff, patients, and families, including crisis intervention and medical or trauma alerts.
- Demonstrate strong multi-faith and multicultural chaplaincy skills to provide spiritual care in a multi-faith environment; respect diversity in race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, and spiritual / religious practices.
- Provide multi-faith worship experiences in various hospital settings.
- Advocate for patient needs and interests within the system to improve access to care and service delivery.
- Maintain ethical principles and professional standards of practice per APC code of ethics.
- Attend required trainings, department events, huddles, staff meetings, and in-services.
- Participate in ongoing evaluation of practice to improve quality and competence; utilize supervision to enhance practice.
- Demonstrate age-specific competence to meet needs of patients from neonates to geriatrics, and collaborate with age-specific hospital resources.
- Participate in Spiritual Care team activities, contribute ideas, and work toward solutions.
- Engage in ongoing professional development per APC Standards for Continuing Professional Education.
- Provide leadership to improve access to care and maintain care quality; mentor others within and outside the spiritual care profession.
- Participate in the Spiritual Care Council, support QAPI processes, track department metrics, and understand the balanced scorecard for Patient Care Services and Spiritual Care Services.
Qualifications
