Public Works Maintenance Worker
Performs general maintenance tasks on water, sewer, streets, parks and / or drainage facility areas of assigned responsibility; operates and maintains equipment as needed.
Examples of duties include :
- Performs general maintenance such as grounds and facilities maintenance; street and sidewalk repair; drainage ditches and storm drains; sewer and water lines; recreational and playground equipment; street and traffic signs.
- Prepares equipment, vehicles and tools for work assignments.
- Performs repair work such as general carpentry; janitorial duties; minor maintenance on equipment, etc. as needed.
- Cleans and services equipment as needed.
- Responds to calls as required outside normal business hours. May be subject to 24 hour call out.
- Assists other crewmembers and co-workers as assigned.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must maintain vehicles to District standards.
- Must follow District safety requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications and requirements include :
Skill in the proper use of hand tools and operation of equipment for assigned work areas such as operating equipment, pumps, mowers, tractors, post hole diggers, utility system equipment, etc.Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.Ability to perform heavy manual labor and to work in adverse weather conditions, confined spaces, and extreme heights when needed.Ability to meet training requirements.Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Ability to read, write and speak the English language.Ability to effectively communicate with staff and with the public.Ability to follow District rules, regulations, and policies.Ability to work a two-way radio / cellular phone.Education : High School diploma or GED.
Experience : Six month experience in related field required.
Supplemental information : Required to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Pre-employment physical may be required. Must possess a valid State of Texas Class "C" Driver's License. Must possess grade "D" Texas Water Commission Certificate of Competency for water and for waste water or equivalent.
