Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed. This role involves minimal supervision and falls within the scope of professional licensing. Key responsibilities include evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and explaining procedures and treatments to patients, ensuring they receive necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various respiratory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and suctioning via multiple methods.
  • Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography according to policy.
  • Review patient chest x-rays and participate in pulmonary function studies.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
  • Provide tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
  • Perform arterial punctures and evaluate the efficiency of ventilation.
  • Document treatments and patient response accurately in respiratory care records.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members regarding patient care.
  • Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging and rectify any errors.

    • Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

    Must hold a current Virginia state license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist.
