Duties : The Companion is responsible for providing routine functions such as bathing, feeding, bed making and assisting patients with activities of daily living under the supervision of a RN.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
Performs and assists patients with activities of daily living Assist with achieving nutritional needs i.e. fluids and nourishment Provides, removes and cleans bedpans and urinals Assists with moving patients and belongings Ensures beds are in appropriate position, locked at all times, side rails remain in the "up" positon as indicated and needs bedside articles are within patient's reach Maintains safety while assisting patients in moving, sitting, or ambulating as necessary and ensures that patients are secured appropriately when transported by wheelchair or stretcher Practices and maintain infection control practices Provides constant (CO) and safety observation (SO) for all patients EXCEPT those on restraints, following MSHS policies and practices. May only observe one patient or up to two patients if in the same room for SO only on the inpatient units and up to four SOs in the ED observation room.
Maintains patient / employee confidentiality in the management of information Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients and families Displays courtesy, tact, and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community Notifies appropriate staff of patient's status; including change in an activity level.
Follows spoken and written directions and responds appropriately to constructive feedback Assumes other responsibilities / duties as assigned.
Skills : Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Ability to read, write, understand and speak English in a clear and concise manner.
Visual and aural acuity to assess patient within parameters of job responsibilities.
Communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Oriented to consumer satisfaction.
Physical stamina, manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in area of Assignment. Ability to lift / move heavy object / patients with or without reasonable accommodations Demonstrate the following minimum requirements :
1) Education : High School Diploma or equivalent.
