Veterinary Emergency Doctor - Job Description
Compensation :
- Base Salary : $160,000 + 22% production bonus (total earnings ranging from $200,000 - $300,000 annually)
- Continuing Education (CE) : 100% covered, including online and in-person courses, plus $3,500 for CE-related travel expenses

Hours : 7 : 00 AM 7 : 00 PM and 7 : 00 PM 7 : 00 AMSwing Shifts : Flexible options (e.g., 10 : 00 AM 10 : 00 PM, 2 : 00 PM 2 : 00 AM, 4 : 00 PM 4 : 00 AM)Shift Frequency : 156 shifts per year (about 3 shifts per week, 12-13 per month)Team Size : 3-4 doctors per shiftLocations :
Greater Chicago Area (Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Naperville, South Loop)Schaumburg : 6-8 new sites opening in January 2025
Most hospitals have 10 doctors and 3 leadership roles : Medical Director, Hospital Manager, and Nursing Manager.Required Skills & Experience :
Education : DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.Experience : 1 year of emergency or critical care experience preferred, but not required.Exotic Animal Experience : Preferred, but willingness to treat exotics is required.Computer Skills : Proficiency in practice management, electronic medical records (EMR), and collaboration software.Communication Skills : Must be able to read, speak, and hear clearly to understand and complete tasks. Must communicate professionally in person and over the phone.Surgical Skills : Willingness to learn and perform minor and major emergency surgeries.Availability : Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis.Essential Functions & Responsibilities :
Consultations : Answer medical questions over the phone.Triage & Treatment : See patients immediately as part of the veterinary emergency triage process.Diagnostics : Perform physical exams and necessary tests (e.g., ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, biopsies).Diagnosis & Treatment Plans : Develop and communicate diagnostic and therapeutic plans to clients.Estimates & Records : Prepare and present treatment estimates and maintain accurate medical records.Surgical Procedures : Perform minor and major emergency surgeries.Client Education : Educate clients on aftercare and preventative measures as needed.
