Crewperson
The City of Cedarburg is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our Department of Public Works as a Crewperson. This position plays a key role in maintaining City streets, infrastructure, and public spaces.
Under the general direction of the Public Works Superintendent and Foreman, the Crewperson performs a wide range of labor-intensive, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and aesthetic quality of Cedarburg's public assets. Seasonal flexibility, equipment operation, and emergency response are essential components of this role. The starting wage range is $25.00 to $29.81 depending on qualifications and experience.
Essential Duties :
- Street & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Repair streets and parking lots using asphalt mixes, cold patches, and compaction techniques
- Perform curb, gutter, and sidewalk demolition and reconstruction
- Install and replace street signs; paint crosswalks, curbs, and traffic indicators
- Control snow and ice through plowing and application of deicing materials
- Repair stormwater and sewer manholes; install catch basins and piping
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and maintain a wide range of equipment including : dump trucks, snow plows, aerial bucket trucks, water trucks, backhoes, loaders, excavators, rollers, paint stripers, chippers, concrete saws, jack hammers, compactors, welders, cutting torches, gas-powered pumps, air compressors, field instruments such as transit and laser levels
- Perform routine maintenance and general cleanup throughout shift
- Monitor and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Vegetation & Tree Management
- Conduct vegetation control and pruning / removal of City trees
- Public Interaction & Event Support
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service
- Assist with setup and takedown of City festivals and events
- Collaborate with DPW leadership on street improvement projects
- Control traffic around work sites using barricades, cones, and flagging
- Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety procedures and use required safety equipment
- Ensure compliance with City policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Respond to emergency situations after hours, including snow and ice operations
Knowledge & Skills :
Working knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in public worksSkilled in operating trucks, machinery, and hand toolsAbility to : communicate effectively, follow safety protocols, build strong working relationships with staff and the public, demonstrate reliability, thoroughness, and professionalismEducation & Licensing :
High school diploma or GED requiredValid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator's LicenseAbility to obtain Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (Class B, C & D) within 90 days of hireMust pass a drug test and background checkPhysical Demands :
