About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : Nursing

Experience : Minimum of 1 year in ICU

License : Michigan RN License

Certifications : BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS

Must-Have :

  • Prior experience in ICU
  • Patient ratio experience
  • Charge experience preferable

Description :

36 or 48 hours available.

Only one holiday request is allowed, and only one day or one evening / day after is granted.

For example, only Thanksgiving Day, not Thanksgiving Day and Eve or Day after.

Only Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is allowed.

Patient ratios are 1 : 1-4.

Our unit mixes ICU and PCU patients.

PCU and general medicine / transfer status can be in a 4 : 1 group based on acuity.

PCU may also be in a 4-3 : 1 ratio based on acuity.

ICU and PCU may be mixed in a 3 : 1 ratio based on acuity.

Ventilated patients are managed in a 2 : 1 ratio.

Cooling, CRRT, or high acuity cases will be in a 1 : 1 group.

Staff will work every other weekend.

Floating to other ICU and medical surgical units will be required as needed based on census.

Typical nurse-to-patient ratios in the medical-surgical areas are approximately 5-6 patients per RN.

Must be available for the entire week of orientation.

Patient Diagnoses include :

COPD, Encephalopathy, Drug Overdose, DKA, AKI, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, Heart Failure, A-fib.

Special Procedures / Unit Details :

CRRT, HD, A-Line placement, CVC Placement, Trach placement, Chest tube placement.

Required Skills :

  • Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure.
  • Endocrine / Metabolic management, including IV insulin protocols.
  • Gastrointestinal care with a focus on GI surgery.
  • Genitourinary / Renal management, including chronic and acute renal failure, CVVHD / CRRT.
  • IV therapy including arterial line management, blood product administration, and central line care / management.
  • Medication administration including continuous IV sedation and emergency medications.
  • Neurological care including CVA / Acute Stroke management.
  • Respiratory management including BiPAP and CPAP care, as well as ventilator management.
  • Our unit has an average of three ventilated patients per day.

    • ICU doctors will retain patients in the ICU if they assess that a handoff is not suitable, even with low acuity.

    In such cases, we may assign an ICU patient to a group of three or four if the patient is stable.
