OVERVIEW : Under
direction, plans, directs, and coordinates risk and insurance programs intended
to control financial risk, losses, and liability for a county agency; performs
related duties as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES : Develops
and administers a comprehensive risk management program, including risk
identification, evaluation, mitigation, and monitoring strategies
Coordinates
the procurement, renewal, and maintenance of insurance coverage, including
property, casualty, liability, workers' compensation, and other lines of
coverage
Investigates
and analyzes incidents, accidents, and claims to determine liability,
negligence, and the extent of risk exposure
Recommends
appropriate risk mitigation strategies to reduce potential claims and
liabilities
Reviews
and negotiates insurance claims and settlements with adjusters, attorneys, and
third-party administrators
Collaborates
with legal counsel, department heads, and external consultants to evaluate risk
implications of contracts and operational decisions
Oversees
the agency's safety, accident prevention, and loss control initiatives
Maintains
accurate records and prepares detailed reports on risk exposures, claims
status, incident trends, and loss history
Trains and
advises staff on risk awareness, safety practices, and regulatory compliance
Supervises
staff engaged in risk analysis, insurance administration, and claims management
REQUIREMENTS : Applicants
must meet one of the following criteria :
Nine (9) years
of professional experience in one or more of the following areas (at least 2 years must have been in a supervisory capacity) :
The
investigation and analysis of insurance claims to determine the extent of
liability and / or negligence
The
coordination of insurance and risk management activities aimed at protecting
the public, employees, and property and reducing liability exposure
Safety
program management, accident prevention, and loss control, including analysis
and report writing
Commercial
underwriting of property and casualty insurance
Negotiation
and settlement of property and casualty insurance claims
OR
Possession
of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5)
years of professional experience in any of the areas listed above, including at
least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS : Strong
interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact
effectively with internal departments, legal representatives, insurance
carriers, and external stakeholders
Proven
leadership and management abilities, particularly in public sector or
regulatory environments
Working
knowledge of insurance policies, claims processes, loss analysis, and
applicable state and federal regulations
Familiarity
with risk financing, contractual risk transfer, and safety program development
Proficiency
in the use of risk management information systems (RMIS) and Microsoft Office
Suite
LICENSE : Appointees
may be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license if the operation
of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
