About The Position

Unit / Department : Float Pool

Units included :

MedSurg Tele and PCU across both campuses.

Includes inpatient holds in the ED.

East Campus : Campus 2 & NextCare — 10-bed double occupancy, includes ICU and stepdown patients.

West Campus : Stepdown 14 rooms (double occupancy), MedTele 95 beds divided into 4 areas.

MedSurg broken into 10-room pods, double occupancy.

Ratios : PCU : 1 : 4

MedSurg Tele : 1 : 5–6

Common Diagnoses / Types of Patients :

Geriatric patients, orthopedic patients

Post-procedural : post-MI, post-cardiac cath, groin care

CABG post-op day 3–4

Unit Operations

Charge Nurse / House Supervisor : Charge nurses present on each unit; do not take patient assignments

Nurse Aides : Utilized across all settings

RT Equipment :

MedSurg : CPAP or BiPAP at night

PCU : BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow

Telemetry / Monitor Techs :

Stepdown units : monitors on the unit; nurses interpret their own strips

PCU & MedSurg Tele : monitored by techs

Orientation

General Hospital Orientation : 8 hours

Unit Orientation :

West MedTele : 12-hour shift

PCU West : 12-hour shift

East Campus : similar, smaller, easy to navigate

Job Requirements

General Requirements

Prescreen + Manager Review required before offer.

Clinician must pass dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing.

Minimum passing score : 80%.

Failure in two attempts = DNU for 6 months within CS AZ and Sacramento.

Radius Rule : 50 miles. Candidates cannot be full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year.

Required Certifications : BLS, ACLS

Experience / Must-Have Skills : Minimum 1 year in PCU setting

RN Responsibilities :

Titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin

Must be comfortable managing the majority of these drips

Shifts & Scheduling

Shift hours : 7a–7p for AM and PM

Scheduler publishes 6-week schedule (4 weeks at a time)

Night shift may accommodate block scheduling requests, but flexibility is required

Weekend Requirements : Every other weekend

Holiday Requirements : Travelers included in permanent staff rotation

Call / Standby Requirement : None

Unit Assignment & Logistics

Assignments communicated 2 hours prior to shift via text from staffing office

Distance between campuses : ~20–25 minutes

Scrub Color / Dress Code : Solid professional scrubs; transitioning to Navy scrubs per Dignity guidelines in October
