Position Overview :
The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Planner II
The Planner II is responsible for processing more technical development applications including minor subdivision and major development plan reviews, code amendments, minor PUD amendments, and special review applications. This position also provides zoning support, and participation in special planning projects, such as long-range planning initiatives. Additionally, this role involves developing, coordinating, and promoting effective policies and communications related to the Avon Municipal Code for the Towns Planning and Zoning Commission, Town Council, and the community. A key focus of this position is to provide elevated technical knowledge and customer service to these entities.

Essential Functions :
- Receives moderately difficult project applications and reviews them for adherence to adopted regulations; conducts design and plan reviews; implements Design Standards from the Development Code, Comprehensive Plan, and other relevant policies and regulations.
- Addresses public inquiries related to development projects and assists in resolving issues faced by citizens.
- Supports Avon's sustainability goals and efforts pertaining to various projects, some of which include the 1) EV Charging Plan, 2) Building Electrification Benchmarking, 3) State Benchmarking Program Tracking, and4) updating Development Projects for regional electric provider Holy Cross.
- Serves as liaison between all Town departments to ensure communication and resource coordination for programs and projects.
- Oversees Short Term Rental regulations, including permitting and compliance with rental limitations.
- Prepares various staff reports and presents them to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Town Council, and other necessary groups and committees.
- Assists with long-range planning projects.
- Assists in drafting various ordinances and regulations related to development controls, design elements, and other amendments to the Avon Municipal Code.
- Maintains the Community Development Department's record-keeping software database in compliance with Colorado's record-keeping requirements.
- Assists with CORA requests submitted to the Community Development Department.
- Evaluates building permits for zoning compliance and landscaping permits for compliance with responsible use of outdoor irrigation water.
- Performs site inspections for buildings under construction, remodels, or other related permits or applications, for compliance with appropriate design review, zoning, and other regulations
Other Duties and Functions :
Supports the Climate Action Collaborative initiatives and related regional sustainability efforts when directed.Assists in supporting actions necessary to define or correct deficiencies or violations with Avons code enforcement officers.Cross trains in other functions within the department as needed.Other duties as assigned.Why Work for the Town of Avon?

Bachelors degree or masters in planning, Urban Design, or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in government or private sector planning required. Mountain resort community experience preferred. A masters degree in planning may substitute for 1.5 years of experience.
