Salary :
Certified Medical Assistant Actively participate as a focused member of a Patient Care Team under the direct supervision of the Clinical Floor Manager coordinating patient care following established standards and practices. Educates patients about procedures, medications, and physician instructions and serves as the liaison between patients, Physician, other practice departments, and other health care providing entities. The home base for this position is determined at hire, however, travel between locations of Hickory, Morganton, and Lincolnton for training and as needed with paid mileage is expected. Full benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, Aflac, and 401k / Profit sharing.Candidate will learn the functions of both CMA 1 and CMA 2 to allow for growth opportunities and to provide departmental support.
If candidate is not a CMA or CCMA, the candidate may qualify for education support to obtain licensure through the Practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Actively participates as a Care Team member in proactively assessing, communicating, and coordinating the needs of patients as may be identified by consultation with other Care Team members under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager.
- Assists physicians with patient exams and procedures, including but not limited to injections, earwax removal, wound care, suture removals, throat cultures, and other clinical procedures performed in the office.
- Prepare rooms and all equipment necessary for in-office procedures, then clean and prepare procedure room afterwards. Cleans, disinfects, stocks, and sets up exam rooms and equipment to prepare for the next exam for non-procedure appointments.
- Calls in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies as requested by the physicians.
- If not scheduled as Clinic Assistant 2, you will assist other nursing and practice staff as requested or as necessary to include histories and instrument sterilization.
- Facilitate effective patient flow throughout clinic : calls patients back to the exam room in an orderly and timely manner to enhance physician efficiency to obtains and record patients height, weight, vital signs, pertinent history, and other information as directed by provider.
- Contacting patients 48-72 hours prior to appointments to update patient histories such as but not limited to medications, allergies, pharmacy, surgeries etc., as assigned.
- Prepares patients and all equipment necessary for regular clinical exams or exams.
- Provides instructions, explanations, and educational materials to patients to assure compliance with medications, procedures, and physician orders; ensures office handouts and educational material are available to patients or responsible caregivers.
- Ensures written care plans, including self-management goals, patient visit summaries, and other physician-patient agreements are provided.
- Enter orders for diagnostic and surgical procedures and completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed.

- Answers and triages all clinical telephone calls and messages within 48 hours of receipt; informs patients of test results by mail, phone, or electronic medium as appropriate.
- Cleans and sterilize instruments using the autoclave or sink, as appropriate.
- Assist Physician Assistants with patient exams and procedures including but not limited to earwax removal, wound care, suture removals, throat cultures, and other clinical procedures.
- Prepares specimens and paperwork to be sent to the Laboratory.
- Process and complete FMLA paperwork as received in a timely manner.
- Maintains professional certification through appropriate continuing education, or complete CCMA program prior to first annual anniversary.
- Assist with CT setup of patients scheduled for in house imaging and administer sleep ring devices.
- Assists other nursing and practice staff as requested or as necessary.
- Adheres to all OSHA regulations to assure employee and patient safety.
- Attends required meetings and participate in committees as assigned.
- Performs other duties assigned or requested.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / REQUIREMENTS :
Normal work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday; some incidences of work beyond the normal business hours should be expected based on patient demand. Saturday clinic from 9am-12pm in rotation with other staff is required.Some incidences of work at other locations if needed.Professional medical office setting without significant variation in temperature or lighting.Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.Performance of basic physical functions of finger dexterity, grasping, clearly understood speaking, hearing, sight (far and near to include data, figures, and computer equipment), and repetitive motion.Routine intermittent standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, and reaching.Must be able to perform heavy work exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and in to exert up fifty pounds of force frequently, primarily in assisting the movement of patients; must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force constantly to lift or move objects.Must be able to accurately view data, figures, and computer equipment.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE FOR CMA / CCMA :
Graduation from High School or equivalent.Certified Medical Assistant certification through AAMA or have your CCMA. Will consider experienced candidate without certification but will be required to obtain certification within first year, candidate can qualify for practice support to obtain this certification.6 months to 2-years Certified Medical Assistant experience preferred but will consider new program graduates.
