Penns Woods Winery is seeking a full time experienced, passionate, and customer-focused Tasting Room Manager to lead our front-of-house operations.
This position entails management of tasting room staff, daily winery operations, supporting DTC sales and events, wine club memberships, and advocating / telling the story of our small, family-owned winery. We strive to provide a memorable wine experience through our excellent customer service and high-quality wine.
With that said, we are looking for an outgoing and eager personality with strong and inspirational leadership skills. This position is ideal for an intrinsically motivated candidate who is a self-starter, an exceptional communicator, and a proficient networker. You must be able to work well in a team environment as this position is key in supporting and co-creating the continued evolution of the Penns Woods community.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position that requires evening and weekend shifts within a fast-paced environment. Throughout most of the year, we have a minimum requirement of 5 weekend days (Saturdays / Sundays) worked each month. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. TEAM DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP
Acts as a leader in all facets. Our Management team is first and foremost the face of the business and the backbone of the operation. We build and motivate from within with a lead- by- example philosophy and by creating an environment of positivity and growth.Exemplifies values of an agent of positive change who is flexible and works well under pressure.Executes vision of customer-centric guest experiences; brings this to life through behavior and actions.Works in tandem with Upper Management to develop experiences that deliver loyalty from current to prospective wine club members.Train, motivate, and review Tasting Room staff, including establishing policies, procedures and programs for customer service skills, product knowledge, wine education, and sales training.Works to constantly streamline and improve business operations through on-going process and people managementUnderstands companys priorities with regards to direct-to-consumer products, priorities and marketing strategies and is able to self-determine daily priorities to support our vision. This position should also lead by example in sales results by regularly hosting guests for seated, elevated experiences, and walk-in tastings.2. OPERATIONAL & DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
Understanding and managing the tasting room experience; from ambiance of the tasting room to customer interaction through the sale; ensuring that every visit is excellent and memorable.Proficiency and general oversight of Tasting Room sales using POS and Reservation systems.Identify and set strategies and implement programs to achieve our Tasting Room sales goals, customer acquisition, wine club membership conversion, and visitor data collection goals.Ensure the Tasting Room is always clean, organized and properly stocked.Property management; ensuring that all areas of the property are clean, tidy, safe and all equipment is in proper working condition.Maintain up-to-date signage, price lists and promotional materials for the Tasting RoomRepresent Winery at off-site events as needed.Inventory management of wine and non-wine items including retail items and general operational supplies.Manage opening and closing duties, checking and ensuring that tasks are completed daily.Professional engagement with customers in person, via email and over the phone to build connections, enhance relationships and create sales.3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires the following levels of physical activity :Ability to walk 10,000+ steps per shift.Ability to lift, move and carry up to 50lbs.Ability to work long shifts on your feet both indoors and outdoorsLoves people and loves to grow a business in a positive way! Having a proactive approach to problem solving is an essential attribute for success in this position.Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Drivers License, and a reliable form of transportation.Previous Tasting Room experience preferred but will consider experience in hospitality and / or sales. Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospitality, winery or restaurant management.Must be a self-starter, who is detail-oriented, excels in multitasking, is able to work undirected and adapt quickly to changing priorities.A strong leader who is patient, and capable of inspiring / engaging others!Ability to work a flexible schedule and nearly all weekends.The ability to motivate staff and resolve customer service issues will be required daily. Must be able to troubleshoot guest and employee problems and find consistent solutions.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; Experience working with a POS or any type of reservations systems is preferred.
