Summary : An Advanced Practice Provider functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Division of Infectious Diseases at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing HIV primary care at the state and federal funded Ryan White HIV / AIDS Part B / C grants located at Wake County Human Services Infectious Diseases Clinic in Raleigh, NC. UNC Chapel Hill provides services at the Wake County Human Services through a contract.
Responsibilities
Clinical - Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform physical assessment, review and interpret diagnostic tests / results. Develop differential diagnoses. Develop and implement treatment plans including prescribing / ordering evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedule follow-up management. Incorporate evidence-based hospital initiatives to improve patient care. Conduct preventive health screening based on age, history and patient needs. Maintain clear, comprehensive records of patient care. Maintain knowledge of general disease and pathologic processes and current specialty literature. Derive correct diagnoses through synthesis of clinical data and interpretation of diagnostic studies. Develop comprehensive differential diagnoses and revise the plan of care to changing patient needs. Prioritize work and assist staff to provide prompt and efficient patient flow. Maintain high productivity according to standards. Lead / participate in projects to improve productivity. Perform medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines, privileging, and clinical roles / responsibilities.
Education - Educate clients and / or families regarding medical condition, treatment, and follow-up. Collaborate with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient / family-centered care. Develop educational materials based on learning needs of clinicians, staff, and students. Provide education / instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and / or students. Identify and pursue self-learning needs. Attend education programs based on identified needs.
Leadership - Provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and / or students including precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, and staff meetings. Participate in community / network outreach programs. Develop / lead outreach programs. Apply knowledge of healthcare systems to improve and optimize care delivery. Lead / participate in systems improvements.
Professional - Interact with patients and families in a respectful, courteous and timely fashion. Interact with coworkers and staff to support patient care needs. Respond quickly to meet customer needs and resolve problems. Accept responsibility for outcomes of one\u2019s work. Share responsibility for overall workload with team members.
Quality / Research - Engage in daily continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement. Consult with management on assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating clinical / system issues. Lead interdisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services. Initiate and revise protocols or guidelines to reflect evidence-based changes in care management. Work to influence policy-making bodies to improve patient care. Develop new clinical programs or services within the department / clinic to improve patient care.
Other Information
Education Requirements : Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
Licensure / Certification Requirements : Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA.
Professional Experience Requirements : No prior experience required.
Knowledge / Skills / and Abilities Requirements : Demonstrated clinical competency; effective leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills; effective interaction to ensure patient care; documentation in the medical record for accurate billing.
