RN - Trauma Leader
GENERAL SUMMARY
The RN - Trauma Leader serves as a clinical expert and leader for trauma care within the Emergency Department (ED). This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with trauma standards, and providing real-time leadership and guidance during trauma activations. The position builds and sustains a team of trauma nurses who are consistently prepared and assigned to lead trauma care, ensuring reliable and expert coverage at all times. The position also involves direct patient care and coordination duties. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as clinical resource to staff, ensuring adherence to trauma protocols and standards.
Provides direct patient care services to assigned patient population.
Partners with the Trauma Department to ensure compliance with trauma standards, policies and external regulatory requirements.
Assists in trauma improvement initiatives, data review, and process updates.
Participates in trauma program audits, surveys and readiness activities.
Works collaboratively with ED Education Coordinators to develop an orientation process, hands-on training, and mentoring and coaching plans for all new and existing ED nurses involved in trauma care.
Identifies gaps in trauma care delivery and partners with leadership team to implement improvements.
Participates in Emergency Management preparedness to ensure unit and staff readiness to respond to a catastrophic event.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required Licenses and / or Certifications
Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a Valid Compact State license.
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
Preferred Education and Experience
5 years emergency nursing experience in a trauma center preferred.
Pediatric nursing experience preferred.
Previous emergency management or Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training or experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
Demonstrates leadership skills, excellent communication skills and strong critical thinking skills necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
