The Subsea Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of the control systems for subsea production equipment, such as subsea trees, manifolds, and intervention systems. This role ensures the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of critical subsea assets by managing the electrical, hydraulic, and communication links between the offshore control room (topsides) and the equipment on the seabed.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Engineering :
- Develop the Subsea Control System (SCS) architecture, including specifications for Master Control Stations (MCS), Subsea Control Modules (SCMs), and umbilicals (power, signal, and hydraulic lines).
- Perform engineering calculations, develop flow schematics, and create detailed functional specifications for the control system components.
- Review and approve vendor drawings, procedures, and technical documentation.
- System Integration and Testing :
- Lead and participate in critical testing activities, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Extended Factory Acceptance Tests (EFATs), and System Integration Tests (SITs).
- Ensure the seamless integration of the subsea control system with topsides Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and other platform instrumentation.
- Operations and Maintenance Support :
- Provide expert technical support for existing subsea control systems, diagnosing and troubleshooting complex electrical, hydraulic, and software faults remotely.
- Develop and manage maintenance programs, spares strategy, and obsolescence management for subsea controls hardware and software.
- Support offshore installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
- Safety and Compliance :
- Ensure all designs comply with international codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety and integrity reviews, such as HAZID and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study).
- Project Management & Coordination :
- Manage the controls scope of work within budget and schedule constraints.
- Interface with multidisciplinary teams (Subsea Structures, Flow Assurance, Mechanical, Drilling) and external contractors / vendors.
