Fire Captain Position
The City of La Habra Heights Fire Department (LHHFD) is looking for experienced Captains to join our team in a part-time capacity. LHHFD is a combo department comprised of paid part-time paramedics and volunteer firefighters who are typically recent fire academy graduates. Our seasoned Captains utilize their career experience to act as positive mentors to help train and guide our recruits to be confident and successful in their next career step. They also manage the daily operation of a fire station including but not limited to 911 emergency response on a Type 1 Paramedic Engine (within our city and mutual aid), training, vehicle maintenance, and facilities maintenance.
Part-Time Fire Captains work a flexible 24-hour schedule (0630-0630) of 4 shifts per month with an opportunity to work additional shifts if backfill is required. Compensation is $27.85 per hour. The Part-Time Fire Captain position is a non-benefited position. Part-time positions are limited to 960 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30).
Requirements :
Pre-Employment Physical : If employment is offered; the candidate will undergo a pre-employment physical at our clinic and must be able to pass all of the requirements of a firefighter physical.
Background Check : If employment is offered; the candidate will undergo a live scan and Checkr background checks.
Additional Information : LHHFD provides fire and advanced life support services to a community of approximately 6000 residents in an area of 6.1 square miles. La Habra Heights is comprised of primarily residential homes located within an urban wildland interface.
Due to budgetary constraints operational budgets do not include funding of Calpers employer contributions for part-time positions. Therefore, a qualified candidate who is a member of Calpers from current or past employment may be restricted from part-time employment.
