Overview

MRI Technologies is seeking a motivated Safety, Health, and Environmental Technician to support operations at NASA's Johnson Space Center, Ellington Field, and SCTF. In this role, you'll be a key contributor to creating and maintaining a safe workplace for NASA teams and contractors by ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards. From conducting inspections to leading safety meetings, your work will directly safeguard people, equipment, and mission success. This project may require shift work and / or overtime and should last 18-24 months.

Your day as a Safety, Health, and Environmental Technician

As a Safety, Health, and Environmental Technician , your day starts in the field—conducting inspections of worksites, equipment, and practices to confirm they meet government safety and environmental regulations. You'll engage directly with teams, leading daily safety meetings, providing oversight on special projects, and ensuring that safe work practices are consistently followed.

You'll document your observations, generate clear daily reports, and immediately escalate any injuries or serious safety issues to management. Some days may involve reviewing or updating safety and environmental metrics, while others focus on coaching teams through safe work practices or helping supervisors mitigate potential hazards.

Every day, you'll balance fieldwork with communication—interacting professionally with employees at all levels while ensuring NASA's workplace remains compliant, safe, and mission-ready. By the end of the week, you'll see the tangible impact of your work : safer teams, stronger programs, and facilities prepared to support NASA's ongoing exploration and innovation.

Knowledge and skills required

  • A degree in environmental health or safety or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a health or safety or related field.
  • Experience working on construction projects and performing field safety inspections
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, in an effective manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
  • Will ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat and ready for Customers' needs when complete.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact professionally with various levels of employees and the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply regulatory codes and standards.

Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship per federal government contractual requirements.
