Our team of nursing staff provides care for patients 14 years or older with actual or potential life-threatening conditions by performing complex assessments, high intensity therapies, interventions, and continuous monitoring. Affords the clinical experience to attain strong critical thinking skills, vast knowledge of disease processes and body systems, and robust care management skills. The ICU at Duke Regional offers phenomenal teamwork, multi-disciplinary collaboration and professional respect – a dynamic environment for professional development. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.\n\nShift Information\n\nFulltime : 36 hours per week\n\nThree (3) 12-hour shifts\n\nRotating 7a / 7p\n\nGeneral Description of this Role\n\nIndependently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.\n\nDuties and Responsibilities of this Role\n
  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, by physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.\n
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.\n
  • Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care. Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and material resources.\n
  • Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assist in completing components of care promptly.\n
  • Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.\n
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities.\n
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\nEducation\n
  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.\n
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.\n\nExperience\n
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.\n\nDegrees, Licensures, Certifications\n
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.\n
  • BLS required.\n\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\n
  • Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and NCA\n
  • Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process\n
  • Knowledge of professional theory, practice and procedure\n
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families\n
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively\n
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships\n
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others\n
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care\n
  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up\n
  • Ability to use fine motor skills\n
  • Competent in BLS and / or other specialized life support requirements designated by work area\n
  • Ability to record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status\n
  • Ability to use computer and learn new software programs\n
  • Able to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and / or paper documentation tools\n
  • Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients\n
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.\n
  • Ability to remain focused and organized\n
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients\n
  • Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions\n
  • Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements\n
