Evansville Western Railway, Inc. (part of P&L Transportation, Inc.) is looking for a Locomotive Electrician in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
A Locomotive Electrician is responsible for the installations, inspections, repair and maintenance of all electrical equipment, including wiring and relays as they relate to locomotives, and related equipment, in accordance with FRA, AAR, and Company rules, policies and regulations. All necessary safety procedures, guidelines and policies must be adhered to in the performance of the tasks assigned to this position as set forth below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Troubles shoot locomotive failures and repair or replace defective components and repair or replace items reported on inbound locomotive inspection
Switch locomotives in and out of diesel shop for maintenance or for repairs.
Switch and position locomotives in a consist for outbound trains.
Perform outbound locomotive operational tests.
Perform outbound locomotive electrical operational test, which include head and ditch lights, head end telemetry device and power circuits.
Operate communication equipment such as hand held radios.
Signal fellow employees for movement of locomotives using a radio, to indicate when to stop, start, back up or set and release locomotive air brakes while performing an locomotive consist outbound test.
Clean and maintain assigned work area in accordance with all company polices and procedures.
Perform preventative maintenance on locomotives and equipment to assure they are functioning properly.
Inspects, replaces, and maintains all electrical equipment including wiring, contactors and relays relative to locomotives.
Inspect and test high and low voltage electrical circuitry and equipment using standard electrical and / or electronic equipment.
Inspect, repair / replace inside and outside wiring at diesel maintenance facility.
Inspect and replace carbon brushes in all rotating equipment as required such as traction motors, auxiliary motors, main generators, and other motors and equipment.
Inspect, maintain or replace locomotive batteries.
Perform functional test on event recorders, speed indicators, locomotive protective circuits, electronic fuel gauges and AEI tags.
Perform functional test on the QES 3 on board computer and associated components and module cards, and repair or replace as required.
Removes, repairs or replaces locomotive electrical components including : cooling fans, dynamic blower motors and grid resistors traction motor / wheel combos.
Needs to be able to work around elevator ramps and open pits.
With use of high pressure washer clean fuel tank, locomotive trucks and engine room as required.
Clean locomotive cabs and windows, supply cabs with ice and drinking water and other required supplies.

Overhead Crane.
Education / Experience :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and knowledge and proficiency of overhead cranes, electric hoists, mechanical and electrical power tools and hand tools Reading, interpreting and applying rulers, scales, tape measures, height sticks, hand levels and gauges. Safe and proficient operation of forklifts, crane trucks, electric hand trucks, scooters and electric hoists. Ability to read and comprehend electrical blueprints and circuitry diagrams as well ass associated testing equipment necessary to conduct repairs.
Language Ability :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and safely with co-workers, and supervisors. Ability to comprehend instructions and tasks and provide co-workers and supervisors with appropriate feed back on assigned job duties and responsibilities.
Math Ability :
Ability to calculate figures and amounts and perform basic math.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations. Ability to logically interpret instructions and equipments and apply them independently to job responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to work indoors and outdoors. They are exposed to heat and cold, both natural and man made. They are required to work in a variety of weather conditions at all times of the day or night.
